Most Common Causes of Shoulder Pain and How to Treat It
Shoulders are silent - when they are working properly you don’t even think about them, however when something goes wrong, you notice how important they are. Shoulder pain causes everything to become more difficult from grabbing your keys off the ring to shoveling some cereal in your mouth.
Shoulder pain is an extremely common condition impacting all ages and caused by a variety of factors such as:
Injuries
Overuse
Underlying medical conditions
If you are being disturbed by shoulder pain and want to find out why AND how to fix it, the TLC Physical Therapy team led by Jason LaMendola PT can help.
Here are the most common causes of shoulder pain:
Tendinitis: Tendinitis is inflammation of a tendon, which is a band of tissue that connects muscle to bone. Tendinitis can occur in any tendon in the body, but it is most common in the rotator cuff tendons, which are the tendons that surround the shoulder joint.
Bursitis: Bursitis is inflammation of a bursa, which is a fluid-filled sac that cushions the bones and tendons in the shoulder joint. Bursitis can be caused by overuse, injury, or infection.
Rotator cuff tears: The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint and help to keep it stable. Rotator cuff tears can occur due to overuse, injury, or aging.
Frozen shoulder: Frozen shoulder is a condition in which the shoulder joint becomes stiff and painful. It can make it difficult to move the shoulder.
Dislocation: when a ball is forced out of the socket you can experience severe pain and lack of arm mobility
This is most definitely not everything, but it is a large chunk of issues we see at our offices.
